John
Hunter began studying the Alexander Technique in 1978 with Alan Rowlands
at Dr. and Mrs. Barlow's Alexander Institute. In 1981 he joined
the teacher-training course run by Mishe Magidov in North London,
qualifying in 1984. During and after his training he studied
extensively with 'first generation' teachers, in particular Patrick
MacDonald, Marjorie Barlow, Peggy Williams, Margaret Goldie and Erica
Whittaker.
He
was an assistant teacher on training courses run by Mishe Magidov
(1985-91) and Eleanor and Peter Ribeaux (1985-8) and taught the

In
1991 and '92 he visited Australia to run post-graduate
courses for teachers, and has also taught in
Brazil, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Spain, Switzerland and the U.S.A.
From
1985 to 1996 he served on the Council of the Society of Teachers of the
Alexander Technique (STAT) and from 1989 to 1992 was Chairman of the Society.
In 2007, along
with a group of former Chairs of STAT, he became a founding
Trustee of the Friends of the Alexander Technique, a
UK Charity dedicated to the Alexander Technique.
As
well as running a private practice in Central and West London, and periodically
visiting
teacher-training courses, he works with teachers, individually
and in groups, in London and overseas. He is currently working on a series of essays exploring
some aspects and
implications of Alexander’s work. |
